Archimede, 1980-2020

Archimedes, the ancient Greek mathematician, physicist and engineer died in 212BC, but his legend and heritage lives on. In 1980 'Archimede Systems Inc.' was born very much under his spell.

The first patents were applied for in 1980. Then a plant was built and proprietary machinery developed to inject steel framed panels. In its first incarnation, the Archimede system produced over 5,000 rhombododecahedral modules from 50,000 panels, creating 1000 houses in several countries. Each module requires 6 to 12 panels depending on situation within the house configuration. More often than not the common walls of several grouped modules are left out. Popular Science Magazine visited our plant and a few houses in an article that can be viewed HERE. .

In the last five years, the scope and reach of Archimede conceepts was pushed to its ultimate international reach be co-developing a panel system based on the use of concrete finishes on lightweight treillised foam boards. This development is especially useful in countries like Haiti where there are plenty of skilled concrete finishers. Popular in central America, these techniques are coupled with the Archimede geometry to provide a low-cost reconstruction alternative to the more expensive polyurethane panels originally developed in Canada and the US
